Baby’s First Sample Sale

This week at work has been a little… slow. So when I was invited to leave a little early and join a few girls at a Rebecca Minkoff sample sale I obviously grabbed my shit and made a quick exit!

As this was my first go at a sample sale I didn’t fully know what to expect, but I have to say – the high stress, the crazy-eyed women and the gobs of colorful & stylish handbags – it was like a drug that I didn’t know I loved! A very expensive drug…

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they were doling out some delicious (and strong) pink drinks

Image

I wasn’t planning on buying anything… but obviously that’s a plan I rarely stick to. I ended up finding two little diddies that I couldn’t resist:

After a few pink drinks and the buzz of impulse buying, we ended the evening on one of the gal’s rooftops enjoying the city view

Not a bad way to kick off the week! Hope yours is going just as delightfully 😉

NY to NC

Last week I traveled back to good ole Winston Salem to visit two of my nearest and dearest friends for their birthdays. Given how bitterly cold and generally miserable this winter has been, it was the perfect mini-vacation to reconnect and relax with some pals.

Of course, on top of seeing the marvelous Bailey and Sarah, I got to explore some of the new spots in WSNC:

The Quiet Pint for some dinner and, yes, pints

(though barely seen here, I’ll describe my outfit given the nature of this blog:

vintage silk blouse of my mom’s, J. Crew fluted skirt, J. Crew necklace)

Small Batch Beer Co., where I’ve been dying to try some local brews, but had yet to have the chance. We also got to catch up with some of my favorite Mullenites of yore while there:

(as you can tell, I’m terrible at smiling for group pictures, but rest assured I was ecstatic to be there!)

Got to hit up a favorite spot, Camino Bakery, with my favorite short stack, Kyra:

We also had an incredibly delicious brunch at The Porch – I can’t wait to go back here again every time I visit!

And we of course spent a sufficient amount of my visit doing this:

Both Sarah and I are pictured wearing: cozy blankets, puppy love, and light hangovers

What an amazing and much needed weekend! I can’t wait for my next visit this summer for Salute Wine Festival to celebrate a dear friend’s bachelorette party – definitely one of my favorite events of the year!

Winter’s Bite / Winter Bites

Since it’s been so fucking cold outside (sorry, it’s too cold not to say fuck) I’ve had to do some indoor photo shoot improvisation. So I had to strategically block our overflowing recycling bin and unwashed frying pans in the background. Don’t judge, girl.

On to the clothes.

I am completely obsessed with this fancy sweatshirt from J Crew. Pretty + comfort = HELL YES.

Best Foot Forward

Fall is absolutely my favorite season – for the weather, the pumpkin flavored lattes and beers, the haunted houses and scary movie marathons, and definitely for the shoes. I’ve been (sub)consciously preparing for fall by picking up some fun new footwear now that my favorite trends are becoming more cost effective. Here’s a snapshot of my favorites, both high and low ends of the price spectrum (and heel height):

METALLIC FLATS

Prada’s metallic flats with a prim bow are clearly out of my price range…but oh so pretty!

Image

Instead, I picked up these loafer style flats from my favorite shop Zara

Image

RAIN BOOTS

They’re clearly a must in the city. I love these wedged boots from Sergio Rossi. You almost wouldn’t guess they were intended for the rain!

Image

For my more budget friendly option, I again turned to my girl Zara and went for these more traditional wellies. I really love the color… maybe because it reminds me of wine?

Image

THE NEW D’ORSAY

One of the most popular trends right now (and definitely my favorite) is the new D’orsay flat. They have a certain modern take on a retro shoe style that is perfect for everyday. Jenni Kayne has some of the most fun and stylish combinations right now, but they come at quite a price

Image

Fortunately for my wallet there was a more affordable pair from Chinese Laundry (plus I had a gift card to Zappos!) and I think they’re just as cute

Image

LACE UP HEELS

On the sexier side are these front lace up heels from Aquazzura that are perfect for going out… and sitting down 😉

Image

Surprise, surprise, I found my pair at Zara. It’s too bad they don’t offer a customer loyalty program because I’d be a platinum member at this point

Image

With so many great options this fall, I’m gonna have to start selling my plasma to keep up! Just kidding… kind of.

Bangs, be gone!

Oh hey there, forehead! When did you get back into town?

Image

That’s right. I’m doing it. That epic journey of growing out my bangs. Prepare to see a lot of bobby pins and headbands in the near future.

Fall Finds

Now that the leaves are falling and the temperature is dropping everyone has been donning their warmer wears. Lucky for me Macy’s was having a pretty good sale!

Image

I fell in love with this bejeweled sweatshirt with quilted sleeves. It reminds me of the latest J. Crew line, but within my price range!

Image

Found this pretty nude dress with white sequins on the 55% off rack and had to have it!

Image

I’ve been loving all of the vests out there this year and thought this cozy one would be a fun addition to my closet.

Can’t wait to try out all of my new pieces! Happy fall!

Brooklyn Pour

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of spending time with my NC pal Shanthony at the annual Brooklyn Pour. It was the perfect way to launch into my stay-cation this week. It was a gorgeous, windy day and perfect for getting out of the house and for layering up.

Shanthony’s mad awesome people skills snagged us that awesome pretzel necklace! Exactly what we needed to go with our beers.

Image

My favorite pour of the day was actually a Swedish hard cider from Rekordelig – they had delightful fruity flavors like strawberry lime and pear. Of course I would find the one non-beer bev at a beer tasting!

Now I have to start mentally preparing for going back to work – yikes!

Until next time,

Bootie-licious

Yep. I said it. Just go with it.

One of my favorite things so far about Fall starting in New York is that every stylish gal in the city is bringing out her most fabulous pairs of booties. I think I might actually have whip-lash from trying to catch a glimpse of every adorable pair that struts past me on the street!

I too have a few pairs that I love to stomp around in. Earlier this week I went with my tan MTNG booties with little studs and metal accents. I decided to squeeze in one more day of tights-free dress wearing before it truly starts to get cold.

Fruits of My Labor Day

One of the best parts about Labor Day weekend is the sea of amazing sales! Duh. It’s one of the few weekends a year that I can afford to peruse and shop some of my favorite, but somewhat inaccessible, brands. This year I kept myself in check and only picked up a few fun things from Madewell.

Image

Picked up some sweet kicks – Keds to be precise – yet another bow ring, and a fun pavé studed bangle. Not too extravagant of a purchse, but just enough to add some more sparkle to my collection.

The bangle has already made its way to the party… the arm party that is!

Hope you had a successful Labor Day hunt too!
